Horizons

Just got the 4th Concave Scream album Horizons. I had the advance copy for more than a month ago. Love it! The packaging is amazing! The album is great. A continuation of where they left off with Three. Albeit not a concept album, it's more on strong tunes with lesser fillers.

And the album launch is tomorrow at Zouk, 9pm! I can't wait!!!

Nacho Libre

My twin brother Jack Black's new movie 'Nacho Libre'. Check out the trailer here. It looks fucken good!

Solar eclipse

3 years ago, Jason and Billy suggested a road trip where we were to drive up to Munich, Germany to attend the 2008 Oktober Fest. Munich 2008 was supposed for us to go through the entire Indian continent and figure a way to drive all the fucken way there. Being the only non-driver, Gavin's main job was to drink all the way there.

However, as age and responsibilities catch up with us, I reckon this would probably be just a pipe dream. Not to forget, this kinda trip will cost an arm and leg as well.

So, I was reading this news and was watching the video of the solar eclipse. Then it crossed my mind. Just like the BKK Rock Fest, a whole trip could be planned around the viewing of the next solar eclipse! And well, it's in 2008. It's still cool.

Hmmm...

I is pissed...

Rented David O. Russell (whom I'm a fan of)'s 'I <3 Huckabees' and 'The Ladykillers' only to find out I couldn't make changes to region to my laptop DVD player anymore. This was supposed to be a DVD weekend, meaning "I-is-too-broke-to-go-out" weekend.

Guess I'd probably have to re-rent these 2 DVDs again and request Video Ezy to give me the Region 3 DVDs.

Back to Philip K. Dick's 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch'. It's been a while since I actually read a novel. So, it's still all good though.

No wonder...

Was reading through the Placebo website and found out that Alex Lee (ex-Strangelove and in the last line-up of Suede) is currently touring with Placebo as a sessionist. No wonder he was spotted hanging out with Simon Gilbert in Bangkok during the BKK Rock Fest.

A new member in Placebo??

Placebo welcome onto the stage, Alex Lee, who has joined the band on
tour and now replaces Xavior Roide who toured with Placebo on the 'Sleeping
With Ghosts' album.

Alex plays keyboards and guitars on stage (along with Bill Lloyd) as witnessed by those of you who managed to attend the first shows in Europe (Lyon,Stransbourg and Paris). Our new member has quite a track record - he was in the 2002 line up of Suede!

Not good at all...

It just hit me that I've bought over 12 CDs this month alone. This is insane consumption. I walked in Gramophone on Wednesday thinking I'd be getting the new Placebo album Meds and walked out with the new Prince album 3121 as well.

Crap. Spending way too much...

Ok Go! strikes again!!!

Gigs galore...

Leslie (Low of The Observatory) once said, "There's No Finer Time (To Be Alive)." Actually, I'm starting to think these words will haunt him like how "Hope I Die Before I Get Old" does to Pete Townshend. It's pretty true.

March is a good month for music lovers in Singapore. There's so many things going on.

B-Quartet's playing a stripped down show this Saturday at the Arts House at 930pm. The Obs will be playing a ticketed show (S$25) the next day at the Arts House as well. On the same day, The Suns will play its last show at the Esplanade at 10pm. Since Sanjeev broke his elbow, Patrick of TypeWriter is standing in on guitars. Should be quite interesting. While Pat's a showman in his own right, it'd be fun to see him play The Suns tunes.

Placebo will be performing in a special showcase next Thursday 23 March. Hopefully, I can score some invites to that gig even though I've just seen them last month. They put up a great live show.

Come Saturday 1 April: Concave Scream launches 4th album 'Horizons' at Zouk! Their 1st album in 7 years and the new one this millenium, well, considering the previous 3 were released in the 90's. This is a family outing! I reckon quite a few of us are going down to check out the show.

X-Men 3: The Last Stand

The movie hits the cinemas on 26 May 2006. Check out the trailer here if you haven't.

I is suckered...

Since I'm catching Kings Of Convenience's performance on Thursday, I thought I'd get my grubby hands on the 1st album Quiet Is The New Loud. Am listening to it now. It's okay lah. Nothing too impressive. Methinks the lack of Feist is showing...

On a Doves high, so I got The Last Broadcast naturally which was the first time I heard Doves. Good stuff. I is still lovin' it.

Orbit Round Me...

We just completed the final mix-down for the song 'Orbit Round Me' we are contributing to the Aging Youth Records-Music For Good 'For Good!' compilation. We are going to let it fallow (yes, just like farmland which is what we learnt in Geography) fo a bit and settle in. We should be going in for the final listen next week.

The compilation's sorta like the Help! compilation in 1997 or so we hope!

Yeeyong will be finalising the design and layout over the next week. This is pretty exciting for me as it's been a while since there's a compilation and this will help to raise funds for Patrick's Music For Good which is an excellent cause. The album will hit the streets in May 2006. Watch out for it and buy a copy to support the home teams and a worthy cause!

We haven't settled on a recommended retail price at the moment. Suggestions would be good though. How much would you pay for an album with over 60 minutes of music featuring 14 Singapore acts?

New stuff I bought...

Just got 5 albums from HMV last week for $50 in total! It was some EMI clearance sale. HMV's loss is my gain! Woo hoo!!!

Fischerspooner's Odyssey: Issit me or electroclash is just Pet Shop Boys with dirtier beats? I heard Odyssey a couple of times. It's... not bad. But I distinctly get the whole Pet Shop Boys vibes throughout the album without the clever lyrics and song titles. Monotonous singing is a pre-requisite. Way overhyped but still not that bad.

The Departure's Dirty Words: The Brits ripping off the Yankees who ripped off The Brits. The quintet sound suspiciously close to Interpol and The Killers which draw their references to certain classic British bands. Might not stay in my Discman for too long.

Haven's All For A Reason: Hehe, after borrowing Max's copy for over a year, I finally got my own. I love the album. Classic Brit-rock style of... well, rock. Big guitars and big tunes. The legendary Johnny Marr worked with them on both of their albums, being not just a producer but a co-songwriter on some tunes as well. James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers named them as one of his favourite bands a couple of years back.

The Dandy Warhols' Odditorium or Warlords of Mars: I love The Warhols but this album is full of half-baked ideas and really bad arrangement. The mixing was pretty off too. What should have been pushed up front to capture the listener's attention is buried too deep in the mix. Interestingly, frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor fancies himself more as a Mick Jagger wannabe.

Doves' Some Cities: Grace burnt this for me last year but I forgot where I threw it. So I got a copy. Prolly the best of the lot! Really good tracks on this album. I like it a lot.

Ok Go!!!

Amazing video of this band OK Go's 'A Million Ways'. Check out their official site here.

Singapore is happening?

"Even so, one night at the 15-year-old Zouk bar in Singapore provides more real action and excitement than you'd find in an entire week on R.C.A., Thailand."

Got this travel site link off Sharlene's blog.

Jacen returns with yet another Singlish spoken short film, starring a friend, Phyllis and 2 more girls. A short about our National Service with gender reversal roles. Simon's in the background, helping out at the MT Line. Doing what? I've no idea man...

Satyricon - Mother North

Warning: Contains nudity and offensive subject matter

(Like hell, that will stop you from watching!)

I found it quite amusing though. Edwin, better don't watch it. Black metal is banned in Malaysia. You gotta guard your ass!
